Meet our ideal Creative Director

You set the standard for the ideas, work, and craft of our agency. You ask the big questions, inspire your teams, and bring clients along in a vulnerable and freeing creative process. You connect smart strategy with emotional stories, push the boundaries of design and imagine what could be.

You are able to assist your team with breaking big ideas into action plans and remain confident in the success of every piece of creative your team presents. You are well versed in all areas of design and copy and are able to lead creative teams with real-world applicability in mind, you love learning new things and diving deeper.

Since you are ultimately responsible for the launch and success of a project, you will be able to maintain a big picture view while guiding your team through the trenches, leading with both caution and abandon while working in tandem with your Account Manager to ensure the client is delighted in every step of the process.

You approach your daily work with a creative focus first, but never lose your passion for healthy project management and communications. You are excited at the prospect of seeing your Account Manager as a partner in crime, problem-solving guru, and coordination master, and you want to utilize that partnership and the agility it provides to make the best work of your career.

Creative Director Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, vision, and direction for a multi-disciplinary team of creatives across a variety of projects and clients

  • Present the idea, vision, and context of your team’s work to your clients in an engaging and inclusive way

  • Forecast, plan and manage project resources alongside you Account Manager

  • Advocate responsibly and effectively for clients in a fast-paced, creative environment with demonstrated day-to-day creative leadership that facilitates a healthy and empowering collaborative culture

  • Work closely with clients to identify and define business requirements

  • Lead and participate in ideation and creative workshops internally and externally to develop brilliant design concepts

  • Be a voice for the Engine in the creative community

  • Assist with recruiting and hiring a team of outstanding creatives

  • Assist with mentoring, guiding and developing team members to fulfill their greater growth potential

  • Become an expert in Engine processes, philosophies, and agile principles


Creative Director Requirements and Qualifications

  • 7+ Years of agency experience with 2 years in a team or project leadership or equivalent

  • Background of graphic design OR copywriting within an agency setting

  • Must have a solid understanding of branding, campaign development, and interactive experiences

  • Strong creative point-of-view, with an intuition for delivering emotional, engaging, and visually stunning experiences

  • Clear articulate communicator with top presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Comfortable communicating design concepts to all audience types clearly and effectively

  • Proven ability to lead and manage dynamic project teams, work autonomously, and multi-task in a fast-paced creative agency environment

  • Well-informed knowledge of creative and technical boundaries with an ability to produce work that pushes limits but remains feasible

  • Strengths in bringing a wide variety of stakeholders together to explore bold ideas, engage in ideas and find healthy consensus

  • An innovative spirit, an unquestionable enthusiasm to question and learn, and a sense of humor
